Guru Nanak Jayanti
Guru Nanak Jayanti is celebrated to honor the birth anniversary of the
first Sikh Guru and founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The festival
is a highly sacred one among the Sikh community residing in various
parts of the world. Born in the present Pakistan district of Shekhupura,
Guru Nanak gave a number of religious teachings to Sikhism which are
collec
ted in the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy book of Sikhs. Guru
Nanak Jayanti is celebrated with great pomp and show throughout the
world, particularly in Punjab and Haryana. Processions are taken out and
traditional delicacies are prepared. Amongst these traditional
practices, people today resort to contemporary means to celebrate the
festival and wish each other.
