Genelia D'Souza

Genelia D'Souza has appeared in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam language films. After gaining wide attention in a Parker Pen commercial with Amitabh Bachchan, Genelia began her acting career with Tujhe Meri Kasam in 2003. She was recognized for her role in Boys the same year, and later established herself inTelugu cinema by acting in several Telugu films during 2003–2005.  Genelia received her first Filmfare Award in 2006 for her performance in the Telugu romantic film, Bommarillu, which earned her critical acclaim. In 2008, she gave critically acclaimed performances in Santosh Subramaniam, a Tamil remake of Bommarillu, and the Bollywood movie Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na. Having acted in several commercially successful movies in Telugu and Tamil, Genelia has established herself as one of the leading actresses of the South Indian film industry.^[1][2] In addition to movie acting, Genelia has hosted the television show Big Switch, and is the brand ambassador of Fanta, Virgin Mobile India, Fastrack, LG Mobiles, Garnier Light, Margo, and Perk in India.   According to Genelia, her name means "rare" or "unique", and is a portmanteau of Jeanette and Neil, her mother and father's name. She is also often informally referred to as Geenu, her nickname.  She liked sports and studies in college, and was a state level athlete, sprinter, and a national level football player.  Genelia did her first modeling assignment at the age of 15, the result of being spotted as the bridesmaid at a wedding.She was selected for the Parker Pen commercial with Amitabh Bachchan, just two days before her exams, and had to shoot the next day. Initially she refused, because of her exam the next day, but the director persuaded Genelia to shoot for the commercial. She gained wide attention from the Parker Pen commercial with Amitabh Bachchan.  Tamil director, S. Shankar, was impressed with her performance in the Parker Pen commercial and decided to cast her in a leading role in his 2003 Tamil film Boys.Genelia was selected among 300 girls, who had auditioned for the movie. She signed three movies simultaneously in three different languages, Tujhe Meri Kasam (Hindi), Boys (Tamil), and Satyam (Telugu).  The year 2006 marked a significant turning point in Genelia's career. She completed two Telugu movies in early 2006, one was the romantic comedy Happy, and the other was Raam.She then portrayed the role of Haasini, a vibrant, effervescent and a happy-go-lucky young girl, in the 2006 Telugu romantic film Bommarillu. The movie, a blockbuster at the box-office, grossed 250 million (US$4.53 million) in India,and also won the 2006 Golden Nandi award. Her character was well received, and garnered her theTelugu Filmfare Award for Best Actress, besides Nandi Special Jury Award and Santosham Award for Best Actress.

किशोर कुमार

‎8 Aug : आज किशोर कुमार की जयंती हैं.बहुमुखी प्रतिभा के धनी किशोर कुमार ने न केवल अभिनय और निर्देशन की प्रतिभा से बल्कि अपनी गायकी से भी सिने प्रेमियों को अपना दीवाना बनाया। किशोर कुमार से सिने जगत की कोई भी विधा अछूती नहीं रही।

किशोर एक ऐसे संजीदा इंसान थे जिनकी उपस्थिति मात्र से माहौल खुशनुमा हो उठता था। अपने हंसते हंसाते रहने की प्रवृति को उन्होंने अपने अभिनय और गायकी मे भी खूब बारीकी से उकेरा। उनका यह अंदाज आज भी उनके चहेतों की यादों मे तरोताजा है।
मध्यप्रदेश के खंडवा शहर में 4 अगस्त 1929 को एक मध्य वर्गीय बंगाली परिवार में अधिवक्ता कुंजी लाल गांगुली के घर जब सबसे छोटे बालक ने जन्म लिया तो कौन जानता था कि आगे चलकर यह बालक देश और अपने परिवार का नाम रोशन करेगा। भाई बहनों में सबसे छोटे नटखट आभास कुमार गांगुली उर्फ किशोर कुमार का रूझान बचपन से ही अपने पिता के पेशे वकालत की तरफ न होकर संगीत की ओर था। के.एल.सहगल के गानों से प्रभावित किशोर कुमार उनकी ही तरह गायक बनना चाहते थे। के.एल.सहगल से मिलने की चाह लिए किशोर कुमार 18 वर्ष की उम्र में मुंबई पहुंचे। लेकिन के.एल.सहगल से मिलने की उनकी मशा पूरी नही हो पायी। उस समय तक उनके बड़े भाई अशोक कुमार बतौर अभिनेता अपनी पहचान बना चुके थे। अशोक कुमार चाहते थे कि किशोर नायक के रूप मे अपनी पहचान बनाए, लेकिन किशोर कुमार को अदाकारी की बजाए पा‌र्श्व गायक बनने की चाह थी हांलाकि उन्होंने संगीत की प्रारंभिक शिक्षा कभी किसी से नही ली। अशोक कुमार की बॉलीवुड में पहचान के कारण उन्हें बतौर अभिनेता काम मिल रहा था। अपनी इच्छा के विपरीत किशोर कुमार ने अभिनय करना जारी रखा जिसका मुख्य कारण यह था कि जिन फिल्मों में वह बतौर कलाकार काम किया करते थे उन्हें उस फिल्म में गाने का भी मौका मिल जाया करता था। किशोर कुमार की उनकी आवाज के.एल.सहगल से काफी हद तक मेल खाती थी। बतौर गायक सबसे पहले उन्हें वर्ष 1948 में बाम्बे टाकिज की फिल्म जिद्दी में सहगल के अंदाज मे ही अभिनेता देवानंद के लिए मरने की दुहाई क्यों मांगू गाने का मौका मिला। एक दिन उनके घर पर एस.डी.वर्मन अशोक कुमार से मिलने आए जहां उन्होंने किशोर कुमार को बाथरूम में गाते सुना तो उन्हें किशोर कुमार के गाने का अंदाज काफी अच्छा लगा। उन्होंने किशोर कुमार को बुलाकर कहा आप के.एल.सहगल की नकल न करे यह बड़े कलाकारों का काम नही है आप खुद अपना एक अलग अंदाज बनाए। इसके बाद किशोर कुमार ने गायकी का एक नया अंदाज बनाया जो उस समय के नामचीन गायक रफी, मुकेश और सहगल से काफी अलग था। वर्ष 1969 में निर्माता निर्देशक शक्ति सामत की फिल्म आराधना के जरिए किशोर गायकी के दुनिया के बेताज बादशाह बने। फिल्म के शुरूआती समय मे संगीतकार सचिन देव वर्मन यह चाहते थे कि फिल्म के गानों को किसी एक गायक को न देकर उसे किशोर कुमार और मोहम्मद रफी दोनों से गवाया जाए, लेकिन बाद में सचिन देव वर्मन की बीमारी के कारण फिल्म अराधना मे उनके पुत्र आर.डी.वर्मन ने संगीत दिया और बाद में मेरे सपनों की रानी कब आएगी तू और रूप तेरा मस्ताना गाना किशोर कुमार ने गाया जो बेहद पसंद किया गया। रूप तेरा मस्ताना गाने के लिए किशोर कुमार को बतौर गायक अपना पहला फिल्म फेयर पुरस्कार मिला और इसके साथ ही फिल्म आराधना के जरिए वह उन ऊंचाइयो पर पहुंच गए जिसके लिए वह अपने सपनो के शहर मुंबई आए थे। इसके बाद किशोर कुमार ने एक से बढ़कर एक गीत गाकर श्रोताओं को भाव विभोर कर दिया।
वर्ष 1951 में बतौर मुख्य अभिनेता उन्होने फिल्म आन्दोलन से अपने कै रियर की शुरूआत की लेकिन इस फिल्म से दर्शकों के बीच वह अपनी पहचान नहीं बना सके। वर्ष 1953 में प्रदर्शित फिल्म लड़की बतौर अभिनेता उनके कैरियर की पहली हिट फिल्म थी। इसके बाद बतौर अभिनेता भी किशोर कुमार ने अपनी फिल्मों के जरिए दर्शकों का भरपूर मनोरंजन किया। उनकी अभिनीत कुछ फिल्मों में नौकरी, बाप रे बाप, चलती का नाम गाड़ी, दिल्ली का ठग, बेवकूफ, कठपुतली, झुमरू, बाम्बे का चोर, मनमौजी, हाफ टिकट, बावरे नैन, मिस्टर एक्स इन बाम्बे, दूर गगन की छांव मे, प्यार किए जा, पड़ोसन, दो दूनी चार जैसी कई सुपरहिट फिल्में जो आज भी किशोर कुमार के जीवंत अभिनय के लिए याद की जाती है।
किशोर कुमार को उनके दिए गए सम्मान की चर्चा की जाए तो उन्हें बतौर गायक 8 बार फिल्म फेयर पुरस्कार मिल चुका है। सबसे पहले उन्हें 1969 में अराधना फिल्म के रूप तेरा मस्ताना गाने के लिए सर्वश्रेष्ठ गायक का फिल्म फेयर पुरस्कार दिया गया था। इसके बाद 1975 में फिल्म अमानुष के गाने दिल ऐसा किसी ने, 1978 में डॉन के गाने खइके पान बनारस वाला, 1980 में हजार राहे जो मुड़के देखी फिल्म थोड़ी सी बेवफाई, 1082 में फिल्म नमक हलाल के पग घूंघरू बांध, 1983 में फिल्म अगर तुम न होते के अगर तुम न होते,1984 में फिल्म शराबी के मंजिलें अपनी जगह है और वर्ष 1985 में फिल्म सागर के सागर किनारे दिल गाने के लिए भी किशोर कुमार सर्वश्रेष्ठ गायक के फिल्म फेयर पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किए गए।

किशोर कुमार ने अपने सम्पूर्ण फिल्मी कैरियर में 800 से भी अधिक हिन्दी फिल्मों के लिए अपना स्वर दिया। हिन्दी फिल्मो के अलावा उन्होंने बंगला, मराठी, आसामी, गुजराती, कन्नड़, भोजपुरी और उडि़या फिल्मों के लिए भी उन्होंने अपनी दिलकश आवाज के जरिए श्रोताओ को भाव विभोर किया। यूं तो किशोर कुमार ने शशि कपूर, धमेन्द्र, विनोद खन्ना, संजीव कुमार, शत्रुघ्न सिन्हा, रणधीर कपूर से लेकर ऋषि कपूर तक के लिए गाने गाए। लेकिन देवानंद, अमिताभ बच्चन, और राजेश खन्ना पर किशोर कुमार की आवाज खूब जमती थी, साथ हीं ये तीनो सुपरस्टार भी अपनी फिल्मों के लिए किशोर कुमार द्वारा गाए जाने की मांग किया करते थे।
1987 में किशोर कुमार ने यह निर्णय लिया कि वह फिल्मो से संन्यास लेने के बाद वापस अपने गांव खंडवा लौट जाएं, लेकिन 13 अक्टूबर 1987 को किशोर कुमार को दिल का दौरा पड़ा और करोड़ों प्रशंसकों को कभी अलविदा न कहने वाला खुद अलविदा हो गया। बहुगुणी प्रतिभा के धनी किशोर कुमार की कमी उनके प्रशंसकों को हमेशा खलेगी।

Arbaaz Khan

Arbaaz Khan made his debut in 1996, he has acted in many leading and supporting roles. He ventured into film production in Bollywood, Arbaaz Khan Productions, launched with Dabangg (2010) in which he also starred as the younger brother of Salman Khan. The film went on to become one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of all time. Arbaaz Khan was born as second son into a family with strong ties to the Bollywood film industry; his father is Salim Khan, a successful screenwriter, and his mother is Salma Khan (Sushila Charak), while his stepmother is dancer and Bollywood actress Helen. He is the brother of renowned actor Salman Khan and actor-producer Sohail Khan.A Khan made his debut in the 1996 film Daraar where he gave a convincing performance in a villainous role of a psychotic wife-beater. He received the Filmfare Best Villain Award for his performance. Though not a very successful actor in his solo films, he has starred in many multi-starrer hit films such as Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998) and Garv: Pride and Honour (2004) where he acted opposite his brother Salman.  He played a villain role in the film Qayamat: City Under Threat (2003) which was also successful at the box office. He also played supporting roles in hit movies of Indian film directorPriyadarshan, comedy films Hulchul (2004), Malamaal Weekly (2006) and Bhagam Bhag (2006). He played supporting roles as a police officer (Constable Javed Shaikh) and a mobster (Moscow Chikna) respectively in the multi-starrers Shootout at Lokhandwala and Fool and Final in 2007. He also made a cameo, alongside brother Sohail Khan, in the blockbuster Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, starring Imran Khan and Genelia D'Souza. Khan also appeared in the television serial Karishma: A Miracle of Destiny in 2003 and has appeared in many TV programs from time to time.

Olympic Games

The Olympic Games is a major international event featuring summer and winter sports, in which thousands of athletes participate in a variety of competitions. The Olympic Games are considered to be the world's foremost sports competition and more than 200 nations participate. The Games are currently held biennially, with Summerand Winter Olympic Games alternating, meaning they occur every four years within their respective seasonal games.  The Olympic Movement consists of international sports federations (IFs), National Olympic Committees (NOCs), and organizing committees for each specific Olympic Games. As the decision-making body, the IOC is responsible for choosing the host city for each Olympic Games. The host city is responsible for organizing and funding a celebration of the Games consistent with the Olympic Charter. The Olympic program, consisting of the sports to be contested at the Games, is also determined by the IOC. The celebration of the Games encompasses many rituals and symbols, such as the Olympic flag and torch, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies. Over 13,000 athletes compete at the Summer and Winter Olympics in 33 different sports and nearly 400 events. The first, second, and third place finishers in each event receiveOlympic medals: gold, silver, and bronze, respectively. The Olympic symbol, better known as the Olympic rings, consists of five intertwined rings and represents the unity of the five inhabited continents (Africa, America, Asia, Australia, Europe). The colored version of the rings—blue, yellow, black, green, and red—over a white field forms the Olympic flag. These colors were chosen because every nation had at least one of them on its national flag. The flag was adopted in 1914 but flown for the first time only at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium. It has since been hoisted during each celebration of the Games.

Rakhi or Raksha Bandhan

Rakhi or Raksha Bandhan which means a 'bond of protection' is a festival primarily observed in India, which celebrates the relationship between brothers and sisters.It is also called Rakhi Purnima in most of India. It is also celebrated in some parts of PakistanThe festival is observed by Hindus, Sikhs and some muslims.The central ceremony involves the tying of a rakhi(sacred thread) by a sister on her brother's wrist. This symbolizes the sister's love and prayers for her brother's well-being, and the brother's lifelong vow to protect her.The festival falls on the full moon day (Shravan Poornima) of the Shravan month of the Hindu lunisolar calendar. It grew in popularity after Rani Karnavati, the widowed queen of Chittor, sent a rakhi to the Mughalemperor Humayun when she required his help.  The festival is marked by the tying of a rakhi, or holy thread, which comes in many colors and designs, by the sister on the wrist of her brother. The brother in return offers a gift to his sister and vows to look after her as she presents sweets to him. The brother usually presents his sister with an envelope filled with money however, other presents such as saris and clothing can be given. The brother and sister traditionally feed one another sweets. These sweets include anything from Jalebi, Kaju Katli, and Burfi. Since north Indian kinship practices give cousins a status similar to siblings, girls and women often tie the rakhi to their male cousins as well (referred to as "cousin-brothers" in regional parlance) in several communities. Unrelated boys and men who are considered to be brothers (munh-bola bhai oradopted brothers) can be tied rakhis, provided they commit to a lifelong obligation to provide protection to the woman or girl.

Meena Kumari

Meena Kumari born Mahjabeen Bano, was an Indian movie actress and poetess. She is regarded as one of the most prominent actresses to have appeared on the screens of Hindi Cinema. During a career spanning 30 years from her childhood to her death, she starred in more than ninety films, many of which have achieved classic and cult status today. Kumari gained a reputation for playing grief-stricken and tragic roles, and her performances have been praised and reminisced throughout the years. Like one of her best-known roles, Chhoti Bahu, in Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962). Meena Kumari gained fame with her role as a heroine in Vijay Bhatt's Baiju Bawra (1952). Meena Kumari highly successfully played the roles of a suffering woman in Parineeta (1953), Daera (1953), Ek Hi Raasta (1956), Sharda (1957), and Dil Apna Aur Preet Parayi(1960). Though she cultivated the image of a tragedienne, she also performed commendably in a few light-hearted movies like Azaad (1955), Miss Mary (1957), Shararat (1959), andKohinoor (1960). One of her best-known roles was in Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962), which was produced by Guru Dutt. Kumari played Chhoti Bahu. For four more years, Kumari performed successfully in Dil Ek Mandir (1963), Kaajal (1965), and Phool Aur Patthar (1966), all of which earned her Filmfare nominations, with Kaajalgarnering her a fourth and last win of the Best Actress award.  Initially, after its release in February 1972, Pakeezah opened to a lukewarm response from the public; however, after Meena Kumari's death less than two months later, people flocked to see it, making it a major box-office success. The film has since gained a cult and classic status, and Kumari's performance was highly appreciated..
