Rituparno Ghosh is a Bengali film director. He has won 10 National Film Awards in India and several awards at international film festivals abroad. Rituparno Ghosh was born and brought up in Kolkata. Both his parents were related to films, his father was a documentary film maker. He won an Award for Best Director for his Bengali film Abohoman.

Shubha Khote

Shubha Khote is an Indian television actress. She is the sister of actor Viju Khote. Shubha Khote studied at St Teresa's Convent, Girgaum, and then graduated in English Literature from Wilson College. Her father Nandu Khote was a stage actor, and had also acted in the silent movies. Her aunt, Durga Khote, was also a well-known actress. Shubha Khote made her debut in Seema (1955) as Putli. Since then, she has starred in several movies, stage shows and TV serials. Her home production Bachelor's Wives (adapted from the Marathi play Gholat Ghol) had more than 40 shows in Mumbai and Aurangabad. Her TV show Zabaan Sambhalke was a major hit.

Dhyan Chand

Dhyan Chand was an Indian field hockey player who was considered to be one of the greatest players of all time.Chand is most remembered for his goal-scoring feats and for his three Olympic gold medals (1928, 1932, and 1936) in field hockey, during an era where India was dominant in the sport. Known as “The Wizard” for his superb ball control, Chand played his final international match in 1948, having scored more than 400 goals during his international career. Chand joined the Indian Army at the age of 16, The Hindi word Chand literally means the moon. Since Dhyan Singh used to practice a lot during night after his duty hours, he invariably used to wait for the moon to come out so that the visibility in the field (during his era there were no flood lights) improved. Hence he was called "Chand", by his fellow players, as his practice sessions at night invariably coincided with the coming out from the moon. Between 1922 and 1926, Chand exclusively played army hockey tournaments and regimental games. After successfully lobbying for reintroducing field hockey in the Olympics, the newly formed Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) made preparations to send its best possible team for the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics. In 1925, an Inter-Provincial Tournament was held to select India's national field hockey team.

Deepak Tijori

Deepak Tijori  is an Indian director and former actor who has acted in Bollywood. Tijori started his acting career with a small role in Krodh (1990). He became a famed supporting actor of Bollywood during the early 1990s and acted in many superhit movies including Aashiqui (1990), Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992), Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1993), Anjaam (1994) and Baadshah (1999). He has acted in a total of 35 films. He also starred as a lead actor in Pehla Nasha (1993). Tijori has directed the 2005 film, Fareb, starring sisters Shilpa Shetty and Shamita Shetty. Tijori made his directorial debut with Oops!, in which he was also the producer and the writer.

Neha Dhupia

Neha Dhupia is an Indian actress who appears in Bollywood films. She is a former beauty queen and winner of Femina Miss India 2002. Dhupia made her acting debut in a play in New Delhi called Graffiti. Thereafter she appeared in a music video for Indipop band Euphoria and also modeled for various advertisement campaigns. She then appeared in the TV serial "Rajdhani". In 2002 she entered the Femina Miss India pageant finishing in first place, winning the Femina Miss India Universe title, and was subsequently sent to the Miss Universe 2002 pageant in Puerto Rico. She was placed in the top 10. Dhupia made her film debut in the 2003 Bollywood film Qayamat: City Under Threat (2003). Dhupia is involved with the Concern India Foundation, an NGO which assists lower income women and children as well as the elderly. She has run in the Mumbai Marathon to support the charity and helped to raise over 5 lakhs.She also helped to raise money for victims of the 2011 Sikkim earthquake.

Women's Equality Day is a day proclaimed each year by the United States President to commemorate the giving of the vote to women throughout the country on an equal basis to men. Women in the United States were given the right to vote on August 26, 1920, when the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution was certified. The amendment was first introduced many years earlier in 1878. Every president has published a proclamation for Women's Equality Day since 1971 when legislation was first introduced in Congress by Bella Abzug.This resolution was passed designating August 26 of each year as Women's Equality Day.

Paulo Coelho is a Brazilian lyricist and novelist. He has become one of the most widely read authors in the world today. He is the recipient of numerous prestigious international awards, amongst them the Crystal Award by the World Economic Forum and France's Legion d'Honneur. He attended a Jesuit school. As a teenager, Coelho wanted to become a writer. At 16, Coelho's introversion and opposition to following a traditional path led to his parents committing him to a mental institution from which he escaped three times before being released at the age of 20. At his parents' wishes, Coelho enrolled in law school and abandoned his dream of becoming a writer. In 1974, Coelho was arrested for "subversive" activities by the ruling military government, who had taken power ten years earlier and viewed his lyrics as left-wing and dangerous.Coelho also worked as an actor, journalist, and theatre director before pursuing his writing career.In 1986, Coelho walked the 500-plus mile Road of Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain, a turning point in his life.On the path, Coelho had a spiritual awakening, which he described autobiographically in The Pilgrimage.

Saira Banu

Saira Banu also known as Saira Bano, is an Indian Bollywood actress and the wife of the film actor Dilip Kumar. She acted in many Bollywood films between 1960 and 1980. She had spent a significant part of her childhood in London, and went to a finishing school. She was an actress at her school, winning many awards and bringing laurels to her parents. Saira Banu was 16 year old in 1960 when she made her debut in Bollywood films.  Banu made her acting debut at 17 years opposite Shammi Kapoor in the 1961 film Junglee for which she earned her first Filmfare nomination as Best Actress. The famous song from this movie "Yaahoo!! Chahe Koi Mujhe Junglee Kahe" sung by Mohammed Rafi was a big success.  Her valiant attempts to establish a reputation as an actress after Gopi, Sagina and Bairaag (all with Dilip Kumar) and films like Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Chaitali met with success. She did earn three additional Filmfare nominations as Best Actress for Shagird (1967), Diwana (1968), and Sagina (1974). In 1976, Saira chose to end her film career.

Chiranjeevi

Chiranjeevi (born Konidala Siva Sankara Vara Prasad on 22 August 1955) is a Indian film actor and a politician. He has worked primarily with Telugu Cinema, but has appeared in several Tamil, Kannada and Hindi films. He made his acting debut in 1978 through the film Punadhirallu.  he played a variety of characters, and his film roles along with his screen persona contributed to a change in the concept of a Telugu film lead actor. He is popularly known as "Megastar" in the Indian media. He has won 9 Filmfare Awards South, the most by any Telugu actor. Chiranjeevi was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian award. In 2006, he was presented an honorary doctorate from Andhra University. Apart from his film career, he is also aphilanthropist and the founder of Chiranjeevi Charitable Foundation, established in 1998.  In 2008, he entered politics by forming the Praja Rajyam Party. In the 2009 Andhra Pradesh elections, Chiranjeevi was elected as a member of the State Assembly from Tirupati constituency. He led the Praja Rajyam Party to emerge as the third largest party in the same election.  Chiranjeevi married Surekha, daughter of veteran Telugu actor Allu Rama Lingaiah, on 20 February 1980.^[13] They have two daughters, Sushmita and Sreeja, and a son, Ram Charan Teja. Ram is also an actor in Tollywood. One of Chiranjeevi's brothers, Nagendra Babu, is a film producer and also has acted in several films, and his youngest brother, Pawan Kalyan, is an actor in Tollywood. Allu Aravind, his brother-in-law, is a film producer.  Allu Arjun, son of Allu Aravind, is also an actor in Telugu cinema.  Upon completion of his training, Chiranjeevi started filming for Punadhirallu, however, his first released film was Pranam Khareedu. Eid al-Fitr (Ramzan)

Eid al-Fitr (Ramzan Id, Eid-ul-Fitar, or Idul-Fitr) is a gazetted holiday in India. It celebrates the end of Ramadan and marks the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal. India's Eid-ul-Fitar festival starts on the first day of the month of Shawwal (or Shawwl). Many Muslims attend communal prayers and listen to a sermon at Eid al-Fitr. Those have not given the charity known as zakat al-fitr during Ramadan do so during Eid al-Fitr. Zakat al-fitr consisting of a quantity of food, such as barley, dates, raisins or wheat flour, or its monetary equivalent given to poor people in the community. It is common for Islamic communities organize communal meals. Many Muslims in India also wear new clothes, visit family members, exchange Eid cards and give presents of sweets and small toys to children. National, state and local government offices, post offices and banks are closed. he word Ramadan comes from the Arabic root ramida or ar-ramad, which means scorching heat or dryness. While fasting from dawn until sunset Muslims refrain from consuming food, drinking liquids. Fasting for Muslims during Ramadan typically includes the increased offering of salat (prayers) and recitation of the Quran. Each day before dawn, Muslims observe a pre-fast meal called Suhoor. Due to the high diversity of the global Muslim community (ummah), the typical suhoor or iftaar meals vary. A few dates and a cup of water are typically the first foods to break the fast, while fried pastries, salads, nuts, legumes, and breads are also common
.After stopping a short time before dawn, Muslims hasten to pray the first prayer of the day, the Fajr prayer.

Dimple Kapadia

She made her acting debut at the age of 16, playing the title role in Raj Kapoor's teen romance Bobby (1973). In that same year she married Indian actor Rajesh Khanna, and retired from acting. Kapadia returned to the film industry in 1984 after her separation from Khanna. One of her films of that period include the dramaSaagar (1985). Both films won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress.  She subsequently took on more serious parts in parallel films and received acclaim for her performances in such films as Kaash (1987), Drishti (1990),Lekin... (1990), and Rudaali (1993), which earned her a National Film Award for Best Actress and a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress. She followed with supporting roles in Gardish (1993) and Krantiveer (1994), the latter of which garnered her a fourth Filmfare Award.  Kapadia continued working infrequently through the 1990s and the 2000s. She played a minor part in Dil Chahta Hai (2001) and was noted for her portrayal of the title role in the American production Leela (2002). Some of her later film credits include leading roles inHum Kaun Hai? (2004), Pyaar Mein Twist (2005), Phir Kabhi (2008) and Tum Milo Toh Sahi (2010), and supporting roles in Being Cyrus(2005), Luck by Chance (2009), Dabangg (2010) and Patiala House (2011).   As Rajesh Khanna's health began deterorating in 2012, Kapadia accompanied him throughout his illness until his demise on 18 July 2012.

Gulzar

Sampooran Singh Kalra known popularly by his pen name Gulzar, is an Indian poet, lyricist and director.He primarily writes in Hindi-Urdu and has also written in Punjabi and several dialects of Hindi such as Braj Bhasha, Khariboli, Haryanviand Marwari. Gulzar was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2004 for his contribution to the arts and the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2002. He has won a number of National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards. In 2009, he won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Jai Ho" in the film Slumdog Millionaire (2008). On 31 January 2010, the same song won him a Grammy Award in the category of Grammy Award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.  As a lyricist, Gulzar is best known for his association with the music directors Rahul Dev Burman, A. R. Rahman and Vishal Bhardwaj. He has also worked with other leading Bollywood music directors including Sachin Dev Burman, Salil Chowdhury, Shankar Jaikishan,Hemant Kumar, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Madan Mohan, Rajesh Roshan, Anu Malik, and Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy. Along with lyrics, he has also contributed in many films as script, story and dialogue writer. Films directed by him have also won numerous awards and have been critically acclaimed. He also had worked on small screen by creating series Mirza Ghalib and Tahreer Munshi Premchand kiamong others. He wrote lyrics for several Doordarshan serials including Hello Zindagi, Potli Baba ki and Jungle Book.

Dr. Ketan Desai

Dr. Ketan Desai is the former president of Medical Council of India and World Medical Association who now serves as Head of Urology department at B.J. Medical College and president of Gujarat Medical Council. After graduating from B.J. Medical College in Ahmedabad in 1983, he became the head of urology department in the same year and still serves as Head. He became the youngest head ever in Indian history. He later became syndicate and senate member of the Gujarat University with most of the time uncontested. He became president of Gujarat Medical Council in the 1990s and became president of Medical Council of India in 2001. He has also served as president of Indian Medical Association and Dental Council of India. He later become president of World Medical Association.

Saif Ali Khan is an Indian actor known for his work in Bollywood films. He is the son of the cricket player and last titular Nawab of Pataudi, late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, and actress Sharmila Tagore, a great-grandniece of poet Rabindranath Tagore. Independence Day 15th August

The Independence Day of India, celebrated on 15 August, is a holiday commemorating India's independence from the British rule and its birth as a sovereign nation on 15 August 1947. The independence coincided with the partition of India wherein the British Indian Empire was divided along religious lines into two new nations—Dominion of India (later Republic of India) and Dominion of Pakistan (later Islamic Republic of Pakistan); the partition was stricken with violent communal riots. The flagship event takes place in Delhi where the Prime Minister hoists the national flag at the Red Fort, followed by a nationally broadcast speech from its ramparts. The day is observed all over India with flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades and cultural events. Raakhee Mazumdar Gulzar

Raakhee Mazumdar Gulzar is an Indian film actress, who has primarily appeared in Hindi films, as well as several Bengali films. She is popularly known as Raakhee Gulzar after her marriage to lyricist-director Gulzar. In four decades of acting, Raakhee won three Filmfare Awards and a National Film Award, among others. At the Filmfare, Raakhee has been nominated 16 times (8 for Best Actress and 8 for Best Supporting Actress), making her the overall most-nominated performer in the female acting categories. Raakhee won rave reviews for her first Bengali film, Badhu Baran, 1967 in Calcutta at the age of 20, after which she was offered the lead role in her first Hindi film, Rajshri Productions' Jeevan Mrityu with Dharmendra in 1970. It went on to become a big hit including its song "Jhilmil sitaron ka aangan hoga..." She again shot to fame in the 1971 film Sharmilee, in which she played a double role opposite Shashi Kapoor. Sunidhi Chauhan

Sunidhi Chauhan best known for her Hindi film songs in Bollywood has also recorded songs for Punjabi, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Bhojpuri, Bengali, Assamese and Gujarati films. She also appeared on Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai (2004) for Karisma Kapoor and as a judge in the TV show Kaboom (2005). She performed a medley of some of her musical numbers at the 52nd Filmfare Awards 2007. She is a member of the Board of Directors at the Asian Academy of Film & Television.Sridevi announced her comeback in early 2011. She is currently working in a new film English Vinglish. The teaser of the movie became the top trending topic on Twitter and has subsequently gone viral on Youtube.
